Wait, what? Since when has Ocean Spray been making chocolate-covered Craisins? Why did nobody tell me? I only recently found these in the produce section at several grocery stores in Calgary, in the spots where you’d normally find regular Craisins – look for salad toppings, croutons, etc.
In case you’re unfamiliar with Craisins, they’re essentially the same as raisins, but made with dried cranberries instead of dried grapes. Compared to raisins, they’re more intense, tart and sour-face-making. Regular Craisins are great on salad, baked into muffins or breads, or eaten on their own. They’re not for everyone – the tartness takes some getting used to – but they’re easier to find than ever. But these chocolate-covered ones? They were new to me.
The Pitch: Dried cranberries (Craisins, for the uninitiated), coasted in chocolate, like Glosette raisins. “Limited Edition,” says the bag.
The Look: Packaged in typical Ocean Spray Craisin packaging: a plastic pouch with a little clear window showing the product inside. They look like chocolate-covered raisins, though some are quite large.
The Taste: Nice. Sweet milk chocolate punched up with a sharp, tart twang from the cranberries. The chocolate is mediocre, and the leftover bits of cranberry stick around in your mouth for a bit, but the combination is worthwhile.

Value for cash money: OK.

The verdict: Not bad at all. An intriguing sweet/sour mix. Better chocolate would take these from OK to delicious.
