Review: Candy Cane Hershey’s Kisses

Candy Cane Hershey’s Kisses
A scattering of Candy Cane Hershey’s Kisses, the most minty seasonal kisses of them all.

White chocolate is polarizing, I know. But I love these Candy Cane Kisses from Hershey’s, and I’ve been meaning to highlight them here for what must be three years. They’re my favourite type of Kisses, and I instinctively buy oodles of the things around the Christmas holidays.

Part of their mystique is their fleeting presence and the resulting difficulty faced by anyone wanting to track them down. It’s hard to figure out which shops will carry them, so when I find them, I snatch them up. One of my favourite candy standbys, London Drugs, has already started carrying them, though who knows which locations will have them. The ones in the photos here came from a pack I found stuck to a structural pillar in a Shoppers Drug Mart, and it was the only Shoppers in downtown Edmonton that even had any in stock. See? Mysterious. My advice is to look for them in with the other festive seasonal stuff, not in the candy aisle area where they normally carry Hershey’s Kisses. Good luck.

Inside the signature foil wrapper is a red-and-white striped Hershey’s Kiss made of white chocolate. The peppermint aroma fills the air as soon as you peel the foil. Everything about these screams Christmas. Embedded inside the minty white chocolate are little bits of ground-up candy cane that contribute to both the texture (crunchy! sticky!) and the minty sweetness. The peppermint flavour profile is just like that of a candy cane: refreshing without being cooling like a menthol lozenge. It’s minty fresh, not sinus-clearing.

In short, they’re sweet, they’re creamy and they make a great stocking stuffer. Or a great treat at the office. Especially if your colleagues hate white chocolate. More for me!
