Recipe: Simple Spiced Apple Cider

Simple Spiced Apple Cider
This Simple Spiced Apple Cider recipe is easy to make, and warms up a house with its spicy aroma.

Near as our calendar app can tell us, it’s Christmas Eve. That means it’s time to hunker down in front of the fireplace, snuggle up with your special someone, and enjoy a warm mug of spiced apple cider. This recipe, from the lovely Aline, is easy to make, and the aroma fills a house with the spices of the season.

Merry Christmas, Internet friends. Thanks for reading, sharing our posts with others, and linking to us. Your continued support is a pretty fantastic gift.

Ingredients:

8 cups (2 L) apple juice
1 orange, cut into quarters
1 cinnamon stick
4 cloves
1 tbsp (15 mL) maple syrup

Directions:

  1. Pour apple juice into a medium-sized pot large enough to comfortably contain the juice.
  2. Place the orange, cinnamon stick and cloves in a cheesecloth bag, then add the bag to the juice. You don’t need to use a cheesecloth bag, but it helps keep seeds out of the cider.
  3. Stir in maple syrup, then bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 25-30 minutes.
  4. Ladle out into mugs and enjoy. Careful, though. It’s hot!

Yield: 2 litres.

And in a Christmas tradition that started while I was copy editing the ed magazine section at the Edmonton Journal, here’s your Christmas dose of the Jingle Cats. You’re welcome.
